TetherChat connects chat channels across Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord so messages sync in real time, both ways, with sender name and avatar on each side. It is an official app on each platform — not a DIY incoming webhook or a shared bot identity.

Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord are live today. TetherChat works both across platforms and within the same platform — so you can connect Slack to Teams, Teams to Discord, or Slack to Discord, and you can also connect two separate Slack workspaces, two Teams tenants, or two Discord servers to each other. Google Chat, WhatsApp Business, and ClickUp are in active development. Zoom and Cisco Webex are on the roadmap.

Yes. You can tether two Slack workspaces together, two Teams tenants, or two Discord servers. The platforms don't need to be different.

As many as you need. Each connected pair of channels is a "Tether." You can have multiple Tethers running simultaneously — one for sales, one for support, one for a partner team, and so on. There are no limits during beta.

TetherChat is installed as an official app on Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord — not a DIY incoming webhook or a single shared bot identity. Bridged messages are delivered with the sender's name and avatar on the other side.

TetherChat is not a DIY incoming webhook. Webhooks are one-directional and label every post generically. TetherChat provides bidirectional sync with sender name and avatar — no webhook URLs to configure or maintain.

TetherChat transmits messages exactly as written without modification or translation. We support all languages that are natively supported by Slack, Teams, and Discord.

TetherChat does not store message content. Messages are routed in real time; we retain routing metadata (such as message IDs for threads, edits, and reactions) and may briefly hold file attachments in encrypted transit storage during delivery.

TetherChat needs permission to read messages in connected channels and post on behalf of users in those channels. It does not read channels you haven't connected, doesn't access DMs, and doesn't store message content after delivery.

Yes. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. The temporary delivery buffer, used only during platform outages, is also encrypted at rest.

No. TetherChat filters out bot-generated and webhook-generated messages by default, so you don't get infinite relay loops or noisy automated messages crossing the bridge.

Only channels where a Tether has been explicitly created. Installing the app does not give TetherChat access to all channels — access is scoped to the channels you choose to connect.

Install TetherChat in your Slack workspace, then in the channel you want to connect, run /tether and choose "Create New Tether." You'll get a Tether ID. Next, install TetherChat in Teams, open the channel tab, choose "Connect to existing," and paste the Tether ID. Messages start syncing immediately.

Install TetherChat in your Slack workspace, run /tether in a channel, and create a new Tether to get a Tether ID. Then install TetherChat in your Discord server, run /tether in a channel, choose "Connect to existing," and paste the same Tether ID.

Yes. TetherChat needs to be installed in both workspaces / servers that you want to connect. This is what enables the native, bidirectional sync — each side has its own authorized connection.

For Slack and Discord, a workspace or server admin needs to approve the app installation. For Teams, your Teams admin may need to approve it through the Microsoft Teams admin center. Once installed, any channel member can create a Tether in that channel.

TetherChat transmits user messages including text, rich formatting (bold, italic, code blocks, lists), links, emoji, edits, deletes, reactions, and file attachments. Threading and replies are also supported. TetherChat does not relay messages from other bots, apps, or integrations — only messages sent directly by users.

Yes. Run /tether in the connected channel on either platform and choose "Disconnect." The sync stops immediately. The other side's channel is not affected — messages there remain intact.

Messages are held in a temporary encrypted buffer and delivered as soon as the platform is back online. No messages are lost during brief outages.

TetherChat is completely free during beta. Unlimited Tethers, all platforms, no credit card required.

The core product will have a free tier after beta. We'll give plenty of notice before anything changes, and we'll never charge retroactively for usage during the free beta period.

We're still figuring out the details. Usage-based and seat-based models are both on the table. The goal is a price that scales fairly with value. We'll share specifics well before beta ends.

Yes, on Slack and Discord. For Slack, invite the TetherChat app to the private channel first, then use /tether as usual. For Discord, add TetherChat to the private channel before running /tether. Microsoft Teams private channels are not supported — use a standard Teams channel. In the admin portal, private channels only appear where the TetherChat app has already been added.

TetherChat supports all standard Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord environments that use the official app stores. Currently, we do not support Slack GovSlack or Microsoft Teams for Government (GCC / GCC High) environments.

TetherChat in Teams is added as a tab inside a channel. When you add the tab, a configuration form appears where you can create a new Tether or connect to an existing one by pasting a Tether ID from Slack or Discord.

Google Chat is in active development. We don't have a firm date, but we're targeting Q3 2026. Check the roadmap page for the latest status.

WhatsApp Business is in active development alongside Google Chat, targeting Q3 2026. The integration will allow WhatsApp Business conversations to sync with Slack or Teams channels.
