Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 3, 2026
1. INTRODUCTION
This Privacy Policy explains how Tether Chat, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with TetherChat ("the App" or "the Service"), a cross-platform messaging bridge for Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, and other supported chat platforms. This policy applies to all users of our App and associated services, including administrators and end users whose messages are relayed through a tether connection.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND ACCESS
We collect and/or access the following types of information:
- Chat messages sent through connected channels (including text, formatting, reactions, and attachments), temporarily processed in transit for delivery
- User identifiers, display names, and avatars from Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, and other supported platforms
- Channel, space, and server information for connected workspaces
- Basic workspace / organization information needed to operate and administer tethers
- Authentication credentials (OAuth tokens and related credentials) required to call platform APIs on your behalf, encrypted at rest
- Routing metadata (tether configuration and message-ID mappings used for threads, edits, reactions, and delivery continuity)
Google user data. When you connect Google Chat / Google Workspace, we may also access Google user data authorized through the Google Chat API and related Workspace APIs, including messages, reactions, space metadata, and user profile information needed to provide the bridging Service. We access only the Google user data required to operate the features you enable. The same limited-access approach applies to Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, and other platforms you connect.
3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the collected information to:
- Facilitate message delivery between platforms
- Provide, operate, and improve our services (including real-time sync, threads, edits, reactions, and attachments where supported)
- Authenticate your workspace and maintain tether connections
- Respond to your requests and inquiries
- Monitor reliability and security of the Service
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use message content from Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, or any other connected platform for advertising, data brokerage, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to providing or improving user-facing features of TetherChat.
4. HOW WE SHARE, TRANSFER, OR DISCLOSE INFORMATION
We do not sell personal information. We do not transfer or disclose your information to third parties for purposes other than providing the Service as described in this Privacy Policy.
We share, transfer, or disclose information only in the following circumstances:
- Connected platforms configured by you — When you create a tether, message content and related metadata are delivered to the destination workspace and platform you connect (for example, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, or another supported platform). This disclosure is the core function of the Service and occurs only for channels/spaces you explicitly link.
- Service providers / subprocessors — We use Google Cloud Platform (including services such as Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Firestore, Cloud KMS, and Cloud Storage) to host and operate the Service for all platforms. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations and only as needed to provide infrastructure for TetherChat.
- Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of TetherChat, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to continued confidentiality commitments consistent with this policy.
Google user data. Separately from the general practices above, and specifically regarding Google user data: we do not transfer or disclose Google user data to third parties except (a) to the connected destination platform/workspace you configure as part of the bridging Service, (b) to our infrastructure subprocessors listed above as needed to operate the Service, or (c) when required by law. We do not transfer Google user data to third parties for targeted advertising, personalized advertising, interest-based advertising, selling to data brokers, or training generalized AI/ML models.
5. AI / MACHINE LEARNING
We do not use message content from any platform — including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, and Google Chat — to develop, improve, or train artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) models. TetherChat does not use Google Workspace APIs or Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalized or non-personalized AI/ML models.
6. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Tether operates on a serverless architecture and does not permanently store messages. Messages are processed in transit (including briefly via a managed queue for reliable delivery) and are removed after successful delivery. Messages are only temporarily retained when necessary (for example, during service outages) until successful delivery is confirmed.
We retain routing metadata (such as tether configuration and message-ID mappings for threads, edits, and reactions) for as long as needed to operate the Service. Encrypted OAuth credentials are retained while a connection remains active. File attachments may briefly use encrypted transit storage during delivery.
You may request deletion of your data by contacting us at security@tetherchat.io or support@tetherchat.io. Workspace administrators can also disconnect tethers and uninstall the App, after which associated routing configuration and stored tokens for that connection are removed.
7. DATA SECURITY
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information. Our infrastructure is hosted on Google Cloud Platform with industry-standard security protocols, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption of tokens at rest using Google Cloud KMS, access controls, and a serverless architecture that minimizes persistent attack surface. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect information consistent with industry standards.
8. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Request correction of your data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing of your data
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights. To exercise these rights, contact security@tetherchat.io or support@tetherchat.io.
9. UPDATES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes through our service or other means, and we will revise the "Last updated" date on this page. If we change how we use platform user data (including Google user data) in a material way, we will provide notice and obtain any additional consent required before using that data in the new way.
